Dr David P Darcy
As a Senior Specialist, Dr. Darcy is Director of the Mini-MBA and Gearing for the Future programmes. He has been involved with senior management development programmes for organisations such as Google and Ladbrokes.
David has extensive knowledge of designing organisations to maximise their coordination and information management capabilities. In applying this knowledge, he has worked with Fortune 500 organisations such as HP, Bausch and Lomb, and the Marriott Corporation, as well as U.S. and Irish government agencies. His research interests broadly lie in the application of I.T. for organisational competitive advantage. David has received a wide range of awards and grants in pursuit of his research agenda including a Fulbright Scholarship, a Steelmet Fellowship, a National Technical Services Association grant, an Institute for Industrial Competitiveness grant, a DARPA grant, a Center for Electronic Markets and Enterprises grant, and a Fraunhofer Center for Experimental Software Engineering grant.
David has also worked extensively with the U.S. Federal Government on aspects of electronic government (e-gov) including making the business case for and the funding of e-gov projects, establishing citizen trust in e-gov transactions, as well as establishing best practices for e-gov implementation projects, particularly regarding multi agency coordination and contribution. Another arena in which he has examined coordination is in I.T. outsourcing to Indian firms and I.T. insourcing by Irish divisions of global organisations. He has amassed considerable insight into I.T. project management and execution, and has also contributed to issues of learning and development for software engineers.
Before joining the IMI, David taught at the Robert H. Smith School of Business, University of Maryland; the School of Computer Science, Carnegie Mellon University; the Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business, University of Pittsburgh; and the Schools of Business (Smurfit & Quinn), University College Dublin.
