Making decisions as a top team is never straightforward. Setting aside prior experiences, personal beliefs and opinions, office politics and personal agendas, and style and personality differences can be very difficult.
Imagine then trying to come together as a top team to make an important decision when all these factors are inevitably present to some degree.
Sometimes what is needed is an external guide, a facilitator to lead the group along a path towards agreement and conclusion. A skilled facilitator will prepare by understanding what the optimal outcome should be and what the group dynamics are. The skilled facilitator plots a path along which progress can be made. The skilled facilitator knows enough to keep the discussion moving forward while at the same time is independent and disinterested in those details that can drag a discussion down and prevent progress.
A skilled facilitator can make all the difference between a group that descends into debate, tangential discussions and frustration and a group that stays on track, on time and reaches a decision that the group can agree on.
We have provided facilitators to organisations in the private sector and public sector. In October 2009 IMI provided a team of 14 facilitators for the Global Irish Economic Forum at Farmleigh.
Could your next important top team discussion be enhanced by the presence of an IMI professional facilitator? Call us today to find out how you could benefit from working with us.

Unlocking Organisational Power & Performance – Why emotional intelligence is such a critical competence
Hemingway defined courage as ‘grace under pressure’. The ability to remain calm under pressure is a core competency for leaders and front-line staff. I have worked extensively with hospital registrars for over a decade and, for medical professionals, emotional intelligence is absolutely critical. For example, if there is a medical emergency, the Registrar must remain Read On
Stop managing failure, give performance enhancing feedback…
Working with managers across a wide section of industries and sizes, one of the most common question I hear is: “What is the best way to deal with poor performers?” I now recognise this somewhat negative question as a human impulse that surfaces every time we feel threatened, uncertain or frustrated; our brains are just Read On
The leadership blueprint: what all senior executives can learn from Ireland’s FDI successes
It is through a combination of excellence in strategic thinking and leadership impact that senior managers in Irish operations have continued to win new mandates from their global headquarters.
