The Diploma is designed around seven core subject areas:

It includes content tailored to the specific needs of participants from the SME sector.

This programme brings together leading practitioners, consultants, researchers and academics to provide you with the most up-to-date and proven strategies and frameworks for the effective management of human resources. It gives you an opportunity to assess the effectiveness of your Human Resources function and yourself as a senior manager/director. It enables you to improve the influence of the HR function and ensure that the function adds real value to the business. This includes the key HR role of leading change.

Participants will work together as a single group to explore concepts and ideas of common interest, but will also be streamed into seperate SME and non-SME group to apply the learning to their own unique organisational settings.

It provides you with frameworks and practical advice on how to:

  • Ensure human resource strategy and practices support and enable competitiveness and innovation
  • Turn strategy into reality - the real challenge

Approach and methodology

The programme has been developed using the most up to date executive development techniques and approaches. Sessions will involve:

  • Best practice case studies and/or role-play on the concepts in practice
  • Short updates on theoretical background and latest research findings
  • Inputs by leading practitioners on their experience in implementing the concepts in an Irish context
  • Use of diagnostic tools and action planning
  • Provision of best practice toolkits for participants

The key emphasis throughout the programme will be on best-practice approaches, relevance and transfer of concepts back to your organisation. Participants will work together as a single group to explore concepts and ideas of common interest, but will also be streamed into separate SME and non-SME groups to apply the learning to their own unique organisational setting.

Assessment will be by:

  • Three inter-modular assignments 
  • A case study/action research dissertation which demonstrates awareness and application of key strategic HR concepts and practices
  • Examinations on: 1. Strategic HR and organisation design, 2. Managing change, 3. Key HR processes

Three Steps to a Master of Business Award

The IMI’s Master of Business (MoB) is an innovatively designed lifelong framework tailored to accelerate your professional development in a uniquely flexible manner. The MoB allows you to combine ‘credit’ for completing certain IMI courses and ultimately earn an internationally recognised, nationally accredited Master of Business qualification.

The Diploma in Strategic Human Resources Management is part of the MoB framework, together with the following Diplomas:

  • Step 2 - Successfully complete a second IMI diploma of your choosing.
  • Step 3- Successfully complete a business project (15,000 word dissertation).

These steps can be completed as quickly as three years, or up to five years – whichever suits your personal, work and learning needs best.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry criteria. However, this is a demanding programme and suitability of candidates will be assessed at a pre-programme discussion with the programme director. The purpose of the discussion is to ensure a good fit between the candidate and the diploma programme. Several years’ work experience at management level will normally be expected.

Accreditation

Successful participants will be awarded the IMI Diploma in Strategic Human Resources Management.

This qualification is accredited and awarded by University College Cork - National University of Ireland, Cork.

The IMI Diploma in Strategic HR Management is academically equivalent to a Postgraduate Certificate (level 9) Minor Award on the National Framework of Qualifications.

By completing this award, you will also earn one-third of the credits required to be awarded the IMI Master of Business qualification.
