IMI yesterday conferred Life Fellowship on four senior leaders for raising the standard of management practice and for the impact they have had on business in Ireland.

[caption id="attachment_31740" align="alignright" width="698"] Dr Phil Nolan and Cathriona Hallahan with their IMI Life Fellowships[/caption] Cathriona Hallahan, Microsoft Ireland Managing Director, Dr Phil Nolan, former Chairman of Ulster Bank, Siobhán Talbot, Glanbia Group Managing Director, and Stan McCarthy, former Chief Executive at Kerry Group, were all named as IMI Life Fellows – the first time the honour has been awarded since 2002. ‘Life Fellowship is the highest honour bestowed by IMI’ said Terence O’Rourke, IMI Board Chairman. ‘It is the means through which we publicly recognise and celebrate those who make a truly significant contribution to the practice of management and business leadership in Ireland. In essence, Life Fellows are those that have practiced and fulfil the mission of IMI.’ The 2018 IMI Life Fellows join a prestigious list of ninety nine business leaders and thinkers including T.K Whitaker, Peter Drucker, Peter Sutherland and Gillian Bowler. IMI will again be conferring the honour in the coming years on senior business leaders who have made a significant contribution to the Irish business landscape. .‘I’m very privileged and humbled to join the illustrious list of IMI Fellows’ said Cathriona Hallahan when asked about receiving her life fellowship. ‘It’s particularly special to be recognised by an institution like IMI who know what management and leadership entails.’ [caption id="attachment_31739" align="alignright" width="516"] Michael McNicholas, Stan McCarthy, Siobhán Talbot and Terence O'Rourke at the IMI Life Fellowship Ceremony[/caption] IMI recently became the first Irish executive education provider to be simultaneously listed on both the Customised and Open global rankings, published by the Financial Times. This global ranking follows the merger with University College Cork in 2016, combining UCC’s expertise, relationships and global reach with IMI’s global ranking, reputation for excellence and business community network to deliver distinctive executive education across Ireland and beyond. ‘It is an honour and a privilege to receive the life fellowship from IMI’ said Siobhán Talbot. ‘I am a huge believer in continuing education and in the opportunities that it opens up. In Glanbia, we have put a lot of focus on developing our leadership and management programmes over the years and the IMI have worked closely with us on this agenda.’ [post_title] => IMI Awards Life Fellowships to Irish Business Leaders [post_excerpt] => [post_status] => publish [comment_status] => open [ping_status] => open [post_password] => [post_name] => imi-awards-life-fellowships-irish-business-leaders [to_ping] => [pinged] => [post_modified] => 2024-03-05 10:49:58 [post_modified_gmt] => 2024-03-05 10:49:58 [post_content_filtered] => [post_parent] => 0 [guid] => https://www.imi.ie/?post_type=post&p=23171 [menu_order] => 0 [post_type] => post [post_mime_type] => [comment_count] => 0 [filter] => raw ) [5] => WP_Post Object ( [ID] => 24482 [post_author] => 146 [post_date] => 2018-11-21 15:17:02 [post_date_gmt] => 2018-11-21 15:17:02 [post_content] => [post_title] => IMI Awards Life Fellowships to Irish Business Leaders [post_excerpt] => [post_status] => publish [comment_status] => open [ping_status] => open [post_password] => [post_name] => imi-awards-life-fellowships-irish-business-leaders-2 [to_ping] => [pinged] => [post_modified] => 2019-11-25 13:24:36 [post_modified_gmt] => 2019-11-25 13:24:36 [post_content_filtered] => [post_parent] => 0 [guid] => https://www.imi.ie/?post_type=post&p=24482 [menu_order] => 0 [post_type] => post [post_mime_type] => [comment_count] => 0 [filter] => raw ) [6] => WP_Post Object ( [ID] => 22683 [post_author] => 146 [post_date] => 2018-04-06 16:14:23 [post_date_gmt] => 2018-04-06 15:14:23 [post_content] => [post_title] => IMI Celebrates First Graduation Ceremony of the Year [post_excerpt] => [post_status] => publish [comment_status] => open [ping_status] => open [post_password] => [post_name] => imi-celebrates-first-graduation-ceremony-year [to_ping] => [pinged] => [post_modified] => 2019-11-18 23:41:51 [post_modified_gmt] => 2019-11-18 23:41:51 [post_content_filtered] => [post_parent] => 0 [guid] => https://www.imi.ie/?post_type=post&p=22683 [menu_order] => 0 [post_type] => post [post_mime_type] => [comment_count] => 0 [filter] => raw ) )

Personal Letter From Gianpiero Petriglieri:

Gianpiero Petriglieri Masterclass:

Recently the IMI held a Masterclass at the IMI Conference Centre with Gianpiero Petriglieri on The Essence of Leadership. With the aid of concepts from psychology, mythology, sociology and neurosciences, Gianpiero’s session reached below superficial leadership theories to address the question—what makes a leader?
Gianpiero is an associate professor of Organisational Behaviour at INSEAD and was short-listed for the 2013 “Future Thinker” award by Thinkers50 ranking. As he mentioned in the Masterclass his research explores the domains of leadership, in particular, exercising leadership mindfully, effectively and responsibly.

Following the Masterclass Gianpiero sent us a personal letter for the attendees of the Masterclass :

Dear Masterclass Participants,
Thank you once again for a lively and insightful conversation yesterday in Dublin, and for your warm welcome. I left with much energy and plenty of ideas to think about. Several of you asked for some of my writing related to the class theme and ideas. Here goes, as promised.
This is a book chapter summarizing my research and approach to leadership development. It is far from the traditional concoction of case discussions, great-leader-worship and self-help that many still associate to ‘leadership programmes,’ and much more aligned with the intent of fostering deep individual development and community building that several of you shared.
I write regularly on leadership and leadership development in the Harvard Business Review, these are some posts on the themes we touched upon.
On the need for more humane, connected leaders: There is no shortage of leaders.
On developing ‘global leaders’ who are skillful and trustworthy: Nomadic leaders need roots.
On helping leaders find their voice, and why it matters: Why work is lonely.
On leadership as engaged artistry: A lesson in engaged artistry.
There are more where these came from, you can find the full list here.
I also post new writing on LinkedIn and related musings on Twitter.
I hope you find some of this material interesting. I hope our paths will cross again soon.
With gratitude, and kind regards,
Gianpiero
