The Value of the Cloud – IMI Strategy Showcase

The Value of the Cloud – IMI Strategy Showcase

For organisations, the potential value of “the cloud” goes well beyond the attributes of the technology. An organisation’s strategic agility can be extended immeasurably by harnessing the resources available in the cloud in an economical, fast to implement and low risk manner.

But you don’t have to take our word for it. Join IMI / UCC’s Dr Fergal Carton for a breakfast briefing showcasing the experience of 3 organisations that have successfully implemented cloud strategies and reaped the benefits. As part of their participation on the IMI Diploma in Cloud Strategy, Sendmode, ACTcloud and Cloud Compare each developed a cloud strategy blueprint for their organisation – and actioned it.

Led by Dr. Fergal Carton, Programme Director of the IMI Diploma in Cloud Strategy, this session will hear from Barry Murphy of Sendmode, Shay Moran of ACTcloud and Eamon Moore of Cloud Compare.

Barry Murphy, CIO
Barry Murphy is the CIO and the co-owner of, a mobile marketing platform that services over 5,000 businesses in Ireland, UK, and South Africa. Barry began his career in automotive electronic engineering working for Kostal GmbH in Ireland, Germany, and Spain. His key role as an engineer was in designing and building simulators for testing BMW, Mercedes, and Volkswagon vehicles. A move fully into IT brought him back to Ireland in 2004 to work in the financial services industry with Pramerica Systems Ireland. In the role as the IT manager, Barry managed the creation and delivery of data center solution and services into Prudential Financial businesses in the US.

Barry co-founded in 2009 and after substantial growth in the first two years of operations he joined the company on a full-time basis in 2011 as the CIO. He has since successfully deployed a low budget private cloud that has enabled the business dynamically scale its operations. Barry’s background in engineering has provided a strong practical design ideology that he has taken into IT projects to deliver repeatable successful solutions from large budget corporate projects to shoestring start-up innovation initiatives.

Shay Moran, Executive Chairman

Shay Moran has been in the Security industry for 40 years. He was formerly Managing Director of Itec Security Products which was acquired by a US public company (Aritech) in 1990. He invested in Access Control Technology Ltd. (ACT) in 1997 and became the non-executive Chairman. ACT design, manufacture and market electronic access control products for the security industry.

Prior to this he was the CEO of Indigo Ltd. the second Internet Service Provider to establish in Ireland. He disposed of the company to Eircom, the national telephone company in 1998 and joinedACT on a full time basis.

Shay has extensive experience of building technology companies. He received the Sean Lemass award for International marketing in 1988, a prestigious national honour which recognises outstanding growth in overseas markets. He holds a masters degree in management (MSc.Mgmt) from Trinity College Dublin and recently completed the IMI/UCC Diploma in Cloud Strategy.

Eamon Moore, Managing Director

Eamon Moore is Managing Director of Cloud Compare having founded the company in October 2012. He has been involved in the I.T. industry since 1995 and has worked with companies such as CSK Software and ESAT/BT. He founded his first company E-MIT Solutions in 2003 and has managed its growth to become a well-known I.T. Consultancy business in the Irish market.

Having graduated from Dublin City University with a degree in Computers Applications Eamon also holds a Diploma in Cloud Strategy from the Irish Management Institute and University College Cork. Eamon is actively involved with a number of organisations including the Small Firms Association, the Institute of Directors and the Dublin Chamber of Commerce and has also recently been appointed to the Institute of Directors Up & Coming Directors Forum.

Constantly striving towards innovation, Eamon spotted a gap in the cloud services market here in Ireland, having conducted considerable research beforehand. Not content with merely joining the burgeoning cloud services field, Eamon’s aim was to dramatically alter its landscape in Ireland. As a result, Cloud Compare was born as Ireland’s first cloud services brokerage firm – and has been continually expanding since its inception in late 2012. Cloud Compare has fundamentally changed the cloud market in Ireland – changing the whole way in which businesses move onto the cloud, educating them and making them aware of the services available, ultimately allowing them to make the right choice for their own particular situation.
