Commenting on his time at IMI, Dr McCarthy said “I originally signed up for four and a half years but the stimulation of working with businesses and practising managers was fantastic and retained my enthusiasm for much longer than I had anticipated. The recent graduation of the first class from the UCC-IMI Alliance makes this an opportune time for me to move on”. In thanking Dr McCarthy for his service as CEO, IMI Chairman, Dr Philip Nolan, highlighted three of the significant achievements of IMI during Dr McCarthy’s tenure: the development of the Master of Business programme, the achievement of a global ranking for the Institute in the Financial Times Executive Education rankings, and the conclusion of the UCC-IMI Strategic Alliance. “IMI is now one of only seven institutions in Britain and Ireland – and the only one in Ireland – to make it into the top 65 global schools ranked for Executive Education by the Financial Times.This achievement, repeated three years in a row, is testament to Tom’s vision and foresight” Dr Nolan noted. At this years IMI National Management Conference, business and academic speakers will include; Yves Morieux, a Managing Director at The Boston Consulting Group, Thimon de Jong, founder and director of Whetston, a strategic foresight think tank and Rory Sutherland, Executive Creative Director of OgilvyOne.
Special guest speaker, former Donegal Gaelic football manager and current Performance Consultant to Glasgow Celtic football club, Jim McGuinness.
The IMI National Management Conference will take place on Thursday, 8th October 2015 with over 250 of Ireland’s top executives expected to attend.

The conference theme is ‘Reinventing Organisations – Rethinking Leadership’.

The Irish Management Institute (IMI) today announced that Yves Morieux, a Senior Partner and Managing Director at The Boston Consulting Group, and Jim McGuinness, former Donegal manager and current Performance Consultant to Glasgow Celtic football club, will address its annual National Management Conference. The IMI Conference, proudly sponsored by Eir [formerly known as Eircom], will take place at the IMI Campus in Sandyford, Dublin on Thursday, 8th October 2015.
A senior partner in BCG’s Washington D.C. office and director of the BCG Institute for Organisation, Morieux will talk about his experience and approach to advising big corporations on restructuring their pillars of management to maximise employee motivation and engagement. Following six golden rules, Morieux’s approach, called ‘Smart Simplicity’, encourages employees to cooperate in order to solve long-term problems, maximising engagement through all levels of a company.
McGuinness will draw on his own experience in top-level sports management and sports psychology to talk about his personal leadership insights and the lessons he has learned about developing and managing top talent. McGuinness, who masterminded the Donegal senior football team’s successful  All-Ireland campaign of 2012, was appointed as a performance consultant for Scottish soccer giants Glasgow Celtic that same year and supported fellow Irishman, Paul McGinley, in his management of the 2014 Ryder Cup team. He will share his insights with Ireland’s top executives in an interactive and engaging question and answer session.
The theme for this year’s conference is ‘Reinventing Organisations – Rethinking Leadership’ with the focus on how successful organisations are designing their organisations to respond effectively to complexity in the corporate environment and developing new approaches to leadership and collaboration that are fit for purpose in the 21st century.

Speaking ahead of next month’s conference, Simon Boucher, Chief Executive of the Irish Management Institute welcomed the continued support of Eir and said;

“The IMI continues to be at the forefront of management and leadership development in Ireland and so it is fitting that our theme this year seeks to understand how high performing organisations are responding to unprecedented social and economic complexity in order to future-proof themselves. Our stellar line-up of speakers is sure to challenge and inspire delegates.”

Richard Moat, CEO, eircom Group said;

“Eir [formerly known as Eircom] is delighted to sponsor the IMI’s National Management Conference for a third year.  As a company eircom continues to invest heavily in the country’s communications network, across broadband, mobile and fixed lines. We are constantly transforming and providing our customers with world-class connectivity solutions that allow them drive their businesses forward. It’s this common ground of evolution, innovation and investment in change that we share with the IMI; that makes this partnership so important.”

About the Irish Management Institute:

IMI is a membership organisation that reflects a spectrum of Irish industry, from the smallest micro-organisations to the world’s largest multinationals. IMI remains the only Irish business school ranked by FT for the 7th year running. For sixty years IMI has pioneered the development of executive education in Ireland. Thousands of senior executives attend developmental programmes at IMI annually, ranging from NFQ level 9 Masters and Diploma qualifications to one and two day master classes. IMI also acts as a “business partner” for organisations that are looking to align comprehensive learning and development strategies to support the execution of business growth strategies.
Common to all IMI programmes is the translation of academic best practice to real-world solutions for practising managers.
