Johanna Clancy
Johanna Clancy is an accomplished academic and leadership educator with extensive experience in responsible management, organisational transformation, and sustainability. Johanna is Associate Head of Sustainability and Impact and Assistant Professor in Business Enterprise at the University of Galway. Johanna brings over nine years of expertise developing leaders who can navigate complex societal, organisational, and environmental challenges.
Johanna lectures in Responsible Management & Leadership, Management & Society, and Social Entrepreneurship, equipping emerging and senior leaders with the frameworks, behaviours, and strategic mindset needed to lead meaningful change.
Her leadership experience includes serving as Academic Director of the Bachelor of Commerce programme, where she oversaw curriculum strategy, academic development, and learner experience for one of Ireland’s largest business programmes. Johanna also co‑founded the Celtic Irish American Academy, designing immersive global citizenship programmes that develop cultural intelligence, adaptability, and international awareness -skills essential for leaders guiding organisations through change.
Prior to her academic career, Johanna worked in industry as a Management Consultant with Accenture, supporting large‑scale transformation projects in operations and supply chain. This hands‑on experience with organisational redesign and strategic change enables her to bridge theory with real‑world practice, offering IMI participants a grounded and insightful perspective on transformation.
Johanna’s extensive career in teaching, consulting, and academic leadership is underpinned by a strong research foundation, including publications on regional innovation systems, business clusters, and strategic responses to structural change. Her qualifications include a PhD, MBS, BComm, a Master of Arts in Academic Practice, and a Certificate in Best Practice in ESG Reporting
