To coincide with Innovation Dublin 2011 IMI hosted Ash Maurya on Thursday Nov 10th free of charge for an audience of 50 IMI Corporate and Alumni Network Members. Maurya recently founded USERCycle.com and is the author of “Running Lean”, which includes practical instructions on Customer Development and Lean Techniques.

Building & Launching Successfully Maurya discussed his insights into how product developers in established companies as well as start-ups can work to ensure they build the right products and launch them successfully. He shared an overview of the Running Lean process, why new product ideas fail and why many start-ups don’t get of the ground. He explained how Running Lean provides a better process and how to put it into action with practical examples. Built on his analysis of Lean Start-Up, Customer Development and Bootstrapping techniques Maurya gave an overview on how the process vets new product ideas, builds and tests a business model and how to find early customers and gauge what they want.

About the Speaker Ash Maurya HeadshotAsh Maurya challenges the notion that start-ups or product developers should plan based on gut, intuition and luck. Instead he applies a systematic process for rigorously stress testing your "Plan A" until you achieve a plan that works. Since bootstrapping his last company seven years ago, he has launched four products and one peer-to-web application framework. He applies customer development and lean start-up techniques to his products, which he frequently writes about on his blog.

IMI Masterclass in association with Zurich – Post Event Photos and Recap

image

The first instalment of our 2016 Masterclass series in association with Zurich took place recently at the IMI Conference Centre in Sandyford.

The keynote was delivered by internationally renowned thinker, Dr. Tomas Chamorro-Premuzic to an audience of over 150 of Ireland’s leading C-Level executives. The key theme of Tomas’s address centred on the concept of ‘why confidence is overrated in business and beyond and why the world, and in particular executives, would benefit from being less confident’.
Tomas talked passionately, and with a good dose of humour at times, about the negative consequences of mistaking confidence and competence in others especially in talent and hiring decisions, high potential interventions and leadership nominations. It combined real-life examples and business-relevant exercises with strong theoretical and scientific evidence: it was designed to challenge participants to reframe how they evaluate talent in themselves and others.

About Dr. Tomas Chamorro-Premuzic

Dr. Tomas Chamorro-Premuzic is a Professor of Business Psychology at University College London, visiting Professor at Columbia University and CEO of Hogan Assessment Systems. He was shortlisted for the 2015 Thinkers 50 Talent Award and is a prolific author and an international authority in psychological profiling, talent management, and people analytics.
Tomas has published 8 books and over 120 scientific papers (h index 41), making him one of the most prolific social scientists of his generation. His work has received awards by the American Psychological Association and the International Society for the Study of Individual Differences.
Dr Tomas is also the director of UCL’s Industrial-Organisational and Business Psychology programme, and an Associate to Harvard’s Entrepreneurial Finance Lab.
Over the past 15 years, he has consulted to a range of clients in the financial services (JP Morgan, HSBC, Prudential), advertising (Havas, Fallon, BBH), media (Yahoo!, MTV, Endemol), consumer goods (Unilever, Reckitt Benckiser), fashion (LVMH, Net-a-Porter) and government (British Army, Royal Mail, National Health Service) sectors.

About the Irish Management Institute Masterclass Series

The Irish Management Institute’s Masterclass series brings together global thought leaders on work practices, organisations, leadership and management to share their ideas and lead the discussions in half-day Masterclasses held at the IMI campus in Sandyford, Dublin. Aimed at senior executives across both the private and public sectors, this initiative is designed to provide IMI member organisations with access to a community of experts and an opportunity to share knowledge and best practice within the membership network.
The IMI’s Masterclass series is only one of many membership initiatives delivered by the institute throughout 2016. As a membership organisation, the IMI reflects a spectrum of Irish industry, from the smallest micro-organisations to the world’s largest multinationals.
