The IMI is delighted to welcome An Taoiseach Enda Kenny as special guest speaker at the National Management Conference 2013. Taking place just a week before one of the most important Budgets for the country, conference delegates will hear An Taoiseach give his current analysis of the state of the nation. This will be one of Enda Kenny’s key addresses prior to Budget 2014, a budget which could be a game changer for the nation.
Enda Kenny was elected Taoiseach on March 9, 2011. Under his leadership, Fine Gael has become the largest political organisation in Ireland.
First elected to the Dáil in a 1975 by-election following the death of his father Henry, he has been re-elected in the Mayo constituency at the 11 General Elections since.
He previously served as a Minister (Tourism and Trade 1994-97) and Minister of State (Education and Labour 1986-87).
Enda is married to Fionnuala O’Kelly and they have 3 children. A fluent Irish speaker, he enjoys cycling, golf and hill walking. He has climbed Croagh Patrick over 100 times as well as Kilimanjaro for charity.
Herb was appointed to the role of Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of eircom in September 2012. He brings to the role extensive operational experience in the telecommunications and TV industries both in the US and Europe.
Herb was previously the President of Ameritech Wireless in the US, Managing Director of Kabel Deutschland, one of Europe’s largest cable operators and COO of Cablecom in Switzerland. Most recently, Herb served as the CEO of the Ethernet exchange operator CENX. Mr Hribar is a former eircom executive, having previously served as Managing Director for Wholesale/Networks with eircom Group from 2002-2004.
He holds three Master Degrees, the first in Computer Science from John Hopkins University, the second, a Masters of Business Administration from George Washington University and the third a Masters of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois
In addition to his extensive career in the telecommunication industry, Herb served for 9 years as an officer in the United States Navy where he graduated from the US Naval Academy with a BSc in Ocean Engineering.
Dr. Tom Redman is President of Navesink Consulting Group and is known as the ‘data doc’. He is internationally renowned across numerous industries for his work with organisations seeking to address the tough problems of data quality for long-term organisational performance. As an advisor, Tom has helped dozens of companies understand their options for addressing data quality, define programmes that get to the root of the issues, and save themselves millions of dollars. As an innovator, Tom was the first to understand the fundamental importance of data, extend principles of quality to data, understand fundamental properties of data in organisations, and give meaning to the phrase ‘manage data assets’.
Today Tom’s focus is on better ‘organisations for data’. He is a much sought after speaker internationally and the author of numerous papers, including Improve Data Quality for Competitive Advantage (Sloan Management Review, 1995) and Data as a Resource: Properties, Implications, and Prescriptions (Sloan Management Review, 1998). Tom’s 2008 book entitled Data Driven: Profiting from Your Most Important Business Asset was the first wholly business oriented book on data. In 2011, Tom received the first IAIDQ ‘Distinguished Member Award’ and the MIT Award for ‘Outstanding Contributions to Information Quality’.
Costas Markides is Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship and holds the Robert P. Bauman Chair of Strategic Leadership at the London Business School. A native of Cyprus, he received his BA (Distinction) and MA (1984) in Economics from Boston University, and his MBA (1985) and DBA (1990) from the Harvard Business School. He serves on the Editorial Boards of several leading academic journals and is a member of the Academy of Management and the Strategic Management Society. He was a participant at the World Economic Forum in Davos from 1999-2003 and again in 2012 and 2013.
He has done research and published widely on the topics of diversification, strategic innovation, business-model innovation and international acquisitions. His book, All the Right Moves: A Guide to Crafting Breakthrough Strategy (HBS Press 2000) was shortlisted for the Igor Ansoff Strategic Management Award as the best strategy book of the previous two years. His next book, entitled Fast Second: How Smart Companies Bypass Radical Innovation to Enter and Dominate New Markets (2005) was short-listed for the Financial Times-Goldman Sachs Management Book of the Year in 2005. His latest book, Game-Changing Strategies: How to Create New Market Space in Established Industries by Breaking the Rules and was published by Jossey-Bass in June 2008. Costas is currently working on a new book, Architects of Change.
Joe Schmidt is Head Coach of the Irish rugby team. A former school teacher, he previously held several coaching roles in New Zealand including New Zealand Schools, Bay of Plenty and at Auckland as assistant coach. He was backs coach at Clermont Auvergne from 2007 to 2010 when the club captured the coveted Bouclier de Brennus Top 14 title. He also found time in his early career to coach Mullingar RFC.
Joe took over as Leinster head coach for the 2010/11 season and guided the province to their second Heineken Cup title in his first season. Leinster won back to back European titles in 2012 and Joe signed off his tenure with Leinster by guiding them to a treble in 2013 capturing the Amlin Challenge Cup, Rabo Direct Pro12 and British & Irish Cup titles.
He was appointed Head Coach of the Irish rugby team in April 2013.
Dr Martyn Newman is MD of RocheMartin and a consulting psychologist with an international reputation as an expert in emotional intelligence (EQ) and leadership. Martyn has held a variety of senior academic positions in Australia and Europe and is currently Visiting Fellow at Sheffield Business School. He has many years experience in international leadership training and management consulting and has worked as an executive coach and top team advisor to many leading companies such as Boeing, BP, ExxonMobil , AXA, Foster’s, GSK, and Quiksilver among many others. Martyn has also consulted to the European Union and the Bulgarian Government’s Ministry of Finance, assisting them to develop leadership excellence.
He is the author of Emotional Capitalists -The New Leaders and co-author of the Emotional Capital Report™, the international benchmark for assuring EQ and leadership performance, and the Emotional Intelligence Sports Inventory, the world’s first psychological inventory to measure how EQ supports elite sports performance. His research has been published by the American Psychological Association and his most recent seminar, Emotional Capitalists – The New Psychology of Emotional Intelligence and Leadership, has been widely acclaimed in Europe, Asia and Australia.
